|Dear Mr. Shuttleworth,
Upon hearing about Ubuntu, one of the most influential GNU/Linux
distros, I was excited. A powerful, up-dated, beautiful, easy-to-use,
and most importantly free (as in freedom) GNU/Linux OS that could turn
my computer system into a professional working workstation, unbelievably
free of charge. Canonical and Ubuntu are, at least for me, synonym of
creativity and brilliant brand-new ideas. However, in my opinion, one of
the most exciting things about Ubuntu is the brilliant idea of using
Personal Package Archives (PPAs) which can bring GNU/Linux into a new
fascinating era. You have provided a way to do it freely based on GNU,
Creative Commons, and other free and open-source licenses. These were
the great features of Ubuntu which made migrate to Ubuntu.
I was extremely disappointed to find out the blog post of Richard M.
Stallman, the legend of free software, about Ubuntu and concerning some
issues about my privacy
(http://www.fsf.org/blogs/rms/ubuntu-spyware-what-to-do). I really adore
your efforts and the huge amount of creativity which were injected into
the free software communities by the efforts of Canonical but
unfortunately the concerns which RMS issues are not second-hand topics.
I care, as much as possible, about my privacy on the net.
As a Member of Ubuntu LoCo This fact affects my activities in Ubuntu
community and as |||and Ubuntu-ir forum moderator, I see the huge
disagreements| with Canonical and Ubuntu for this action. Many of them
told me that they will not support Ubuntu anymore until changes are
made so they can use it without sacrificing their freedom and privacy.
They will encourage others to opt for an OS that does respect the freedom
of its users. Canonical board of directories need to understand that
potential users will not accept these shortages. Don't let your great
reputation get ruined.
My freedom and privacy is more important than anything you could ever make.
Please, allow your great OS to be completely free and private.
Sincerely,
Danial Behzadi
